Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of algo (“we”, “us”, “our”), a reading intelligence platform operated from London, United Kingdom. By creating an account or using algo, you agree to these terms.

Please read these terms carefully before using the service. If you do not agree, you must not use algo.

We collect the following categories of data:

• Account information — your name, email address, date of birth, and gender (if provided). Used to create and manage your account and personalise your experience.
• Reading data — highlights, notes, and metadata imported from Kindle or other supported sources. This is the core of the service and is stored to power your personal library and search.
• Usage data — how you interact with the app (pages visited, features used, import history). Used to improve the product and diagnose issues.
• Communication preferences — whether you have opted in to marketing emails. Used solely to determine whether to send you product updates.

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Your data is used to:

• Provide and maintain the algo service
• Personalise your reading library and experience
• Send you transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
• Send product updates and news — only if you have opted in at signup or subsequently
• Improve the product and diagnose technical issues
• Comply with legal obligations

We will not use your data for purposes incompatible with those listed above without your consent.

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides encrypted storage at rest and in transit (TLS). We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, your data will be deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Our infrastructure may involve data processing in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom. We ensure any transfers outside these regions are subject to appropriate safeguards.

We will only send you marketing emails (product updates, news, and announcements) if you explicitly opted in during signup or have subsequently consented.

If you opted out at signup, you will not receive marketing emails. You may change your preference at any time:

• By updating your account settings
• By clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
• By emailing us at will@algoapp.uk

Opting out of marketing emails will not affect transactional or account-related communications.

Under applicable data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
• Restriction — ask us to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

You agree not to:

• Use algo for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data
• Upload content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights
• Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code from the service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

The algo platform, including its design, code, and branding, is owned by us. Your reading data and highlights remain yours — we claim no ownership over content you import.

algo is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above and, where changes are material, notify you by email. Continued use of algo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
